Ted
VanCleave
Photographer/Painter
Ted VanCleave grew up
in rural Indiana and has lived in California
since age 22. His abstract paintings and mixed
media works have been exhibited and collected
throughout the US and have received many honors
and awards. In 2005, Ted devoted himself almost
exclusively to photography. He?s transferred
his use of abstract forms and bold colors from
painting to photography seamlessly. Ted still creates
abstract images, using buildings and flowers as
the basis of form. He captures his subjects from
very unique perspectives and saturates his building
images with bold colors. His
"Structure: The Los Angeles Series",
released in 2006, was featured prominently in the
international fine arts photography magazine, Eyemazing.
VanCleave's work was selected by Laura Rosenstock,
Curator, The Museum of Modern Art, New York to appear
in the Faber Birren Color Award Show and he was awarded
Top National Honors from the prestigious National
Watercolor Society. Featured interviews of VanCleave
have received a worldwide audience on CNN among others.
"Ted VanCleave has
captured the urban landscape of Los Angeles by
focusing on the city's unique style of modern and
postmodern industrial architecture. His photographs
of the city?s architecture extend beyond representation
and become brilliant, almost surreal, abstracts
that juxtapose vibrant color and the geometry of
the city's landscape.
VanCleave's color palette
expertly plays with photography's unique ability
to capture subtleties in light and shadow, adding
a richness and narrative depth to his primarily
abstract form". Metro Gallery,
June, 2006
Ted is based in Los Angeles, CA.
